This definitely brought tears to my eyes. I thought of my own grandmother as I read; my grandfather has been gone for nearly 15 years, and I know a day does not go by that she doesn’t think of him. I loved that you touched on her first heartbreak, but I was also struck by the heartbreak of her husband dying. Such a bittersweet tale…a true reflection of life.

This was my favorite part:

I wept that day and left my heart in a million shattered pieces by the phone. I wouldn’t be able to collect them again for many years to come.

I think it summed up her heartbreak perfectly, and also showed that she did indeed manage to collect those pieces and make a happy life for herself. I know this is fiction, but it’s sad to think of that generation and how many stories like this actually happened.
