It’s my party

Hi. My name is Stacey and today I am 35. Thirty-five. Treinta y cinco. I told the kids I was turning 28. They stared at me with confusion.

Since I love making lists, and today is my birthday, I will grace you with a list of random things about me. I know, you are so lucky.

1a. I like being a mom more than I thought I would. I suppose the 7 kids makes that a redundant statement.

b. Except when they drive me crazy. I know it’s bad when hubby walks in, hands me the car keys and 20 bucks and banishes me from the house.

10. I have competed in a triathlon, a half marathon, a relay marathon and several 5K’s. I am training for a 12 man 191.5 mile relay this summer.

C. My toilets don’t flush unless you assist them with a plunger. I just thought that might be important somehow.

7. I feel that properly numbered lists are over-rated. And I don’t like Valentine’s day. I’m a bit of a scrooge that way. I’m sure there is some deep-seated issue I should probably work out in therapy.

R. I’m tired and suffering from the winter blues. I hope all my kids grow up and move to California so I can visit in the winter.

18. I heard that Julia Childs was 37 before she began to cook. (I also keep thinking I should verify that before posting this. C’est la vie.) I like to think that there’s still time for me to find my success.

17G. My knees creak. And I can’t sit on the floor criss-cross-applesauce with the kids because my knees hurt. I have to sit on one of their little chairs.

V. I can’t do 5th grade math. It’s a little embarrassing. And no, I am NOT smarter than a 5th grader. Just older. Old. Very, very old.

2. My hair is very long. I like it long, but I worry about being an old lady and having kids look at me and think, “Dude, her hair is SO like 50 years ago. She, like totally needs to cut it.” Yeah, I can get my valley girl on.

H. My baby is sick. Again. And keeping me up at night. Again.

8. When my Mom turned 35, I was 15. In 5 years I will be 40. Crap.

8B. I love how excited my kids are to help me celebrate my birthday. There is currently craft crap all over the table that I have to avert my eyes from so the kids can finish my birthday presents. Being a mom rocks.

15. My 9 year old made a device to deliver his valentines into the box he made for school. My kids are pretty awesome.

3. I can’t imagine my life any other way than the way it is right now. It’s over-all pretty awesome. Even if I do hate winter.

The end. Happy Monday. And if you must celebrate chocolate day, then Happy Valentines day to you tomorrow.
